Robert Edward "Ted" Turner III is an American entrepreneur, television producer, media proprietor, and philanthropist. As a businessman, he is known as the founder of the Cable News Network (CNN), the first 24-hour cable news channel. He also founded WTBS, which pioneered the superstation concept in cable television, and later became TBS. Throughout his career, Turner has also gained fame as a sportsman, winning the 1977 America's Cup and founding the Goodwill Games.
