Aung San Suu Kyi is a Burmese politician, diplomat, author, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who served as State Counsellor of Myanmar from 2016 to 2021. She rose to prominence during the 1988 Uprisings and became the General Secretary of the National League for Democracy (NLD). For over two decades, she was a prominent political prisoner, spending 15 years under house arrest between 1989 and 2010.
